"You Know You Love Me"

Reading Level: They say: YA. I Say: New Adult.
I came into this series as a lover of the TV series, Gossip Girl. Anyone who has watched the show knows that it really doesn't have much in common with the books - however I didn't have such knowledge approaching the books. I felt like the writers of the show held my attention much better. Not a day passed during the show in which I wasn't begging for Chuck and Blair to live happily ever after.
Entering into the book I found some things that shocked me right away. The language in the book was shocking, I couldn't count on two hands the number of time the f-word was dropped in this book for High School students. Seriously, and then all the talk about sex, and being horney? I don't mind teen talking about sex in books, because sex happens - but the lack of grace in the wording outside of conversation was sickening.
The writing style itself was average. At times I couldn't tell if the author was doing third person traditional, third person narration with an external person telling the story, or borderline first person (as in the story was in third person but some of the statements and lines were very 1st person).
The story-line was entertaining, at least. I think I will continue reading the series for a few reasons - 1: the story-line is entertaining enough to pass the time while riding the bus to and fro (I hate to drive) 2: I already purchased almost all of them because they were on sale used at the Value Village store 3: I love Blair and Dan and I want to see what happens to them.
Character wise, I still love the same two characters I loved in the series (although I also loved Chuck in the series and he isn't in the books enough to love or hate). And, oddly, I also dislike the same character.
I didn't like Nate in the show, and with his (spoiler alter) relationship with Jenny while still dating Blair - I don't like Nate in the book series. He was spoiled and shallow in the tv show, but in the books he is that, and a total stoner (and I don't believe in the getting baked lifestyle at all).
I still love Blair, she is the kind of girl who you can relate to. She strives to the best, the prettiest, the tiniest in weight, and to have the lifestyle she dreams of. I love her and want to support her. I also love Dan, because he is that person in love with someone who doesn't notice him that you can't help but love and have your heart go out to.
If you are a parent, I suggest reading these book before sharing them. They are very graphic and not suitable for children under 16, IMO, I wouldn't allow my children under that age to read them - they see enough icky stuff in life I don't want them to see it as entertainment.
